Art Around the World

Art Around the World celebrates the visual histories of some of the most beautiful locations around the world! Each week we will focus on one country, discuss its culture, and complete a project associated with the location and its peoples. Some travel stops include: Tanzania where we will discus the importance of storytelling with traditional masks and costumes; China where we will celebrate the Lunar New Year with dragon puppets; and we will even come back around to the United States to discover how Native American crafts such as beads and blankets have shaped our own history. As a part of this class, students will receive a small pouch of basic supplies to be used in the class as well as a passport that we will stamp with each stop we make along our artistic journey. This class is taught by Ms. Keesee, Sope Creek ES's art teacher and is recommend for grades 2-5. Each meeting focuses on a new project and can move quickly!

Cardio Sharp/Cardio Sharp Jr.

Physically fit students perform better academically, behave better at school and home, and are simply more comfortable in their own skin. While we know the roles diet, homework, and sleep play in ‘powering up’ a student’s ‘network’ for the classroom, the last 20 years of scientific research has revealed a new, major player in the ‘ready‐to‐learn’ domain – cardiovascular fitness. Cardio Sharp is driven by this relationship between enthusiastic, vigorous play and cognitive and behavioral development. Modified games, sports, and challenges equip students with exciting, efficient tools for realizing the promises of cardiovascular conditioning. Happy, comfortable kids with better grades – that’s our business, that’s our mission. Cost includes T-shirt, hat, and water bottle!

Drama Club

Drama club is a fun and creative way for children to develop several fundamental abilities, including self-esteem, confidence, creative thinking, acting skills, public speaking skills, as well as leadership and teamwork skills. We will explore drama through various activities, such as: playing drama games; learning presentation techniques like voice projection, body language, and facial expressions; and performing short skits or reader's theater for other club members. We're going to have a great time!

Drawspace

Do you like to doodle? Do you spend time drawing? Would you like to improve? Would you like to spend time creating pieces of art each week? DRAWSPACE is just for you. You might not even know that drawing instruction builds creativity, better communication, and brain-body connections, eases anxiety, improves memory, and benefits all parts of the learning brain.  We will learn to draw different styles and different types of pictures each week all while adding our own details and style to each piece.  We will begin to appreciate the differences in our artwork and in those around us and learn how drawing can help us in every aspect of life- even if we aren't the most gifted artist! This fun class will see our students bringing home different drawings each week and ideas of how to use this skill in school and in life.
